Remains Identified as Emily Strite

On September 28, a local homeowner found skeletal remains, which were later confirmed by Jefferson County authorities using medical and dental records to be those of Strite. She had been missing since April 12 after last being seen in De Soto. Strite’s disappearance had left her family and friends in anguish, and while her remains have been located, the investigation into her cause of death is ongoing. Police have not yet determined the circumstances surrounding her disappearance or the exact cause of her death, and no arrests have been made. Strite’s remains were transferred to the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.

No Foul Play Suspected, Investigation Ongoing

Despite the tragic discovery, authorities have indicated that there were no immediate signs of foul play in Strite’s death. Grant Bissell, Public Safety Information Coordinator for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed to Newsweek that investigators are still trying to piece together what happened to the mother of four. Strite’s mother, Charlyn McCain, has requested that people avoid the area where her daughter’s remains were found as the investigation continues. In a Facebook post, McCain expressed her desire for the investigation to proceed without disruption, hoping that more information would come to light about what led to her daughter’s tragic end.

A Troubled Relationship and Last Known Sighting

Strite’s friends have shared that she had been in and out of an abusive relationship with the father of her youngest children, which might have played a role in her disappearance. According to reports, Strite was last seen at a friend’s house on 4th Street before she left on foot. She was not reported missing until eight days later. The last communication McCain had with her daughter was when Strite mentioned she planned to visit her three youngest children, who were living with their father, Steve Fults, in Illinois. However, Fults later called McCain a week after Strite’s disappearance, expressing concern that he had not heard from her. This call unsettled McCain, as it was unusual for Fults to reach out regarding Strite.
