Lauderhill woman charged with aggravated animal cruelty after dog’s suffering leads to euthanasia, authorities say

Months after a severely injured and malnourished dog, believed to have been chained for an extended period, was euthanized, the Lauderhill woman responsible for the dog’s care has been arrested.

Alison Marie Arthur, 28, was taken into custody Thursday on charges of animal cruelty, specifically for causing death, pain, or suffering to an animal. According to an arrest report, authorities believe the dog, named Orey, endured significant suffering leading up to March 10, when Broward County Animal Control responded to a report on Northwest 55th Avenue about a dog being tied up without access to food or water.

When officers arrived, they found Orey tethered to what appeared to be an old, rusted weight set, with large open sores on her neck and pus oozing from a wound. The report indicated that it was suspected the dog might have been bitten by an iguana, which contributed to her injuries.

Additionally, Orey was severely underweight, with her ribs, hips, and spine clearly visible, the report stated.
