Atlantic City Mayor, Marty Small and wife La’Quetta Small who is city school’s superintendent were indicted last month for beating and abusing their teenage daughter. The prosecutors said both parents hit and emotionally abuse the girl which once made her unconscious in December and January.

Marty Small is also charged with assault and terroristic threats. Small denied the charges on behalf of himself and his wife claiming the matter to be a private family matter that did not constitute a crime.

Ed Jacobs, The Attorney of mayor and his wife said in a statement, “Both are highly educated and successful professionals who are respected members of our community. Marty is the major of Atlantic City, and La’Quetta is the superintendent of schools, so they, unfortunately, wear targets on their backs. Because of some investigators, the high profiles earned by Marty and La’Quetta present on opportunity for a headline-grabbing investigation, even if that means meddling into personal and private family members, such as a mom and dad doing their best to manage the challenges of raising a teenage child.”

“We are confident that fair minded jurors will quickly see that parenting struggles are not criminal events, and will agree on the innocence of both Marty and La’Quetta .” Jacobs added.

In the affidavit filed by prosecutors, The Small’s daughter did agree that she made up the accusations because she was mad at her parents as they did not let her go out with friends. The claims of abuse was real as she showed the pictures of abuse with her boyfriend who showed the photos to police.

Marty and La’Quetta disapproved of their daughter’s boyfriend. The boyfriend during a video chat secretly recorded an instance of Marty Small physically and verbally assaulting her.
