How to help Hurricane Milton survivors after the storm

33

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3, wreaking havoc across Florida, including communities already recovering from Hurricane Helene. President Biden assured Floridians that his administration will provide assistance “for as long as it takes to rescue, recover, and rebuild.”

Several organizations are planning to help houses affected by Milton. The Federal Emergency Management Agency operates multiple disaster recovery facilities across the state. According to the White House, FEMA has 20 million meals and 40 million liters of water on hand to assist with the continuing Helene and Milton response activities.

CBS is collaborating with the American Red Cross to aid relief efforts for those affected by Hurricanes Milton and Helene. The Florida catastrophe Fund has announced that it will make payments to service organizations that assist people with catastrophe response and recovery. The fund stated that the collected donations will benefit individuals touched by Milton and Helene.

The Florida Disaster Legal Aid Helpline provides free legal information and guidance to persons facing FEMA assistance or other disaster-related barriers. Residents can contact 833-514-2940 for assistance or apply online. Local group Feeding Tampa Bay connects residents to hot meals and food banks. Their disaster ready staff is FEMA-trained, according to the group, and they work directly with local emergency management operations to offer food, water, and hygiene supplies during crises.

Metro Ministries, which provides housing for at-risk families in Tampa, promises to assist people in need of food, lodging, and supplies to rebuild their life following Hurricane Milton. Pet owners and animal enthusiasts can contact the Humane Society of the United States, which is working to obtain transportation for dogs and cats and send them to safety while also assisting devastated animal shelters.
