ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man in his 60s tragically died while cleaning debris from his yard following the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, authorities reported. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson stated that the man appeared to have stepped on a downed power line, leading to his death.

Deputies responded to the incident at a home on Pine Island Place around 5 p.m. and found the man lying unresponsive in his yard. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Friday, officials reported at least eight fatalities linked to Hurricane Milton. Five people died when a tornado struck the Spanish Lakes Country Club near Fort Pierce on the Atlantic Coast.

In Volusia County, two women—a 79-year-old in Ormond Beach and a 54-year-old in Port Orange—lost their lives when trees collapsed onto their homes. Additionally, in Tampa, police discovered the body of a woman in her 70s under a large tree branch on Thursday morning.

The tragic accidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers that persist even after severe weather has passed. Local authorities urge residents to exercise extreme caution, especially around power lines and unstable structures.
