In January, The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office was called after new residents held a garage sale in order to get rid of belongings left by the previous owners. On cleaning, they made a suspicious discovery.
The Sheriff’s department said, “Upon arrival, deputies found the head and hands of a human had been discovered in a freezer by someone who arrived to claim the free appliance offered by the new owner of the recently sold home.”
Human remains were found earlier this year in Colorado is identified now. Through DNA testing, the Coroner’s Office was able to identify the victim as “Amanda Leariel Overstreet”, the biological daughter of the previous owner of the home, according to the Sheriff’s department.
Authorities state that, “Amanda is believed to have been approximately 16 year old at the time of her disappearance. Overstreet has not been seen or heard from since April 2005.” However, a missing report was never filed.
Inside the freezer there was a head and forearms with hands attached. Deputies were called on Jan.12 after the person claiming the freezer made the discovery.
The Mesa County coroner’s office said on Friday that the manner of death was being investigated as homicide. The rest of her body has not been found yet. The coroner’s office did not list a cause of death but said there is an active investigation and no further details would be released.
