A father in Arkansas has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a man found in a vehicle with his missing 14-year-old daughter.

Aaron Spencer, 36, had reported his daughter missing on Tuesday, prompting deputies from the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office to head to his home. However, before they arrived, Spencer reportedly discovered his daughter with 67-year-old Michael Fosler in a vehicle. A confrontation between the men followed, during which Spencer allegedly shot and killed Fosler.

Spencer was arrested on a preliminary charge of first-degree murder, a Class Y felony, and taken to the Lonoke County Detention Center. He was released the next day after posting bail. Sheriff John Staley explained in a Facebook video that Spencer has not yet been formally charged, and the District Attorney’s Office will determine the final charges. “This is a tragic situation, and my thoughts and prayers are with all involved,” Staley said.

Spencer’s wife, Heather, revealed on Facebook that Fosler had a “no contact order” against him for stalking and raping their daughter during the summer. She expressed concern that Fosler might have been planning to harm her daughter. Heather also mentioned that she and her husband were unaware Fosler had reestablished contact with their child.

“We were calling 911 throughout the entire event,” she wrote. “We had no idea this man was in contact with our child again. He was facing multiple felonies for what he had done and was looking at spending the rest of his life in jail. (https://www.voiceofsap.org/) Our daughter was the key witness.”
