A recent statewide poll conducted by Mason-Dixon for NBC6 and Telemundo 51 shows former President Donald Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris by six points in Florida. The poll, conducted between October 1 and 4, sampled opinions from 625 registered voters. If the election were held today, 49% of respondents said they would vote for Trump, while 43% favored Harris. A notable 6% of voters remain undecided, highlighting the potential impact of swing voters.
Economy Tops Concerns for Florida Voters
The survey revealed that the economy is the most pressing issue for Florida voters, with 32% identifying it as the key factor in deciding their presidential vote. Other significant issues included protecting U.S. democracy (15%), immigration (14%), and abortion, which came in fifth place. The economic concerns are further underscored by 54% of participants rating the current economic conditions as “poor.” When asked to compare their financial situation to four years ago, 44% of Floridians said they were worse off. This sentiment translated into confidence in Trump’s ability to handle economic issues, with 54% of respondents stating that he would better manage the economy than Harris.
Harris Gains on Abortion, Trump Leads on Immigration
While Trump leads on issues such as the economy and immigration (with 55% favoring Trump and 42% backing Harris on the latter), Harris showed strength on the controversial issue of abortion. Half of the poll’s participants believe Harris would better manage abortion-related policies, an issue that continues to be a focal point in political debates.
Florida Senate Race: Scott Ahead of Mucarsel-Powell
In the race for the U.S. Senate, incumbent Republican Rick Scott holds a seven-point lead over Democratic challenger Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. According to the poll, 48% of Florida voters support reelecting Scott for a second term, while 41% back Mucarsel-Powell. Nine percent of respondents remain undecided, indicating the race could tighten as the election approaches.
Florida Amendments on Marijuana and Abortion
The poll also assessed voter opinions on two key Florida constitutional amendments: Amendment 3, which seeks to legalize recreational marijuana, and Amendment 4, which addresses abortion rights. Amendment 3, if passed, would legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 years or older, allowing individuals to possess up to three ounces for personal use. The poll shows strong support for the amendment, with 58% of respondents in favor, 35% against, and 7% undecided.
Amendment 4 would protect abortion rights by ensuring that no law can prohibit or restrict abortion before viability, and would allow for abortion when necessary to protect the patient’s health. The poll found 61% of voters supporting the amendment, while 33% opposed it. With only 6% undecided, the amendment is likely to pass, as it requires 60% approval from voters. As Florida gears up for upcoming elections, the results of this poll reflect the key issues that will shape the state’s political landscape, from economic concerns to social policies.
