Hispanic Couple Creates New Pathways in Beekeeping
A young couple in South Florida is making a significant impact by combining their cultural heritage with a passion for environmental stewardship. Jean Navarro and his girlfriend, Ana Perez, co-founded Mega Bee Rescues, a company dedicated to bee removal, relocation, and pest control. Both are registered beekeepers and have quickly become well-known for their efforts, not only locally but across the United States.
A Family Legacy of Pest Control and Beekeeping
Jean Navarro credits his father for inspiring him to enter the pest management industry. “My father was the one who planted the seed of pest control,” Navarro shared. His father, an immigrant from Peru, started his own pest control business in South Florida, laying the foundation for what would later become a family tradition.
At one of their properties in Homestead, the couple manages 75 boxes of rescued bees, each containing frames of comb that house millions of bees. Their work is not only a business but a tribute to the risks their parents took when they emigrated to the U.S. “They took a huge risk to go from where they were to where we are today,” Navarro reflected, acknowledging the struggles his father faced as a non-English speaking immigrant starting a new life and business from scratch.
Empowering Others Through Education and Representation
Navarro and Perez’s journey is not just about rescuing bees—it’s about representing their cultures and inspiring others. As a Peruvian and Cuban couple, they take pride in their roots, and their success has made them role models for many in their community. They leverage social media to share their story and promote the importance of wildlife conservation, gaining a following that extends beyond South Florida. “People that support us, follow us, that’s been a big push for us to be better and better,” said Navarro. They view their platform as an opportunity to educate others on the importance of bees and the role everyone can play in preserving wildlife. By highlighting their cultural heritage, they also hope to inspire others from similar backgrounds to pursue their passions and give back to their communities.
Giving Back: A Business with a Purpose
For Navarro and Perez, Mega Bee Rescues is more than just a business; it’s a way to contribute to their community and honor the sacrifices of their families. “Having a business, it’s beyond just having a business. It’s about what you can do for your community and what you can do for those around you,” Navarro emphasized.
Their operation is still growing, but the couple is determined to continue expanding their reach and ensuring their families’ legacies live on. Like the worker bees they care for, they remain dedicated and persistent, striving to make Mega Bee Rescues a household name throughout South Florida.
