Hurricane Milton death toll up to 24, according to FDLE. Here’s where

As of Monday, Oct. 14, at least 24 people have died as a result of Hurricane Milton’s widespread devastation and flooding across Florida, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). The death toll has varied as first responders continue to respond to emergency calls that were missed during the storm, and as search and rescue teams reach more isolated areas.

Local agencies determine whether a death is storm-related, and these numbers may change as new information on the causes of death is revealed. This tragic update comes less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene, which resulted in 27 deaths in Florida and over 228 deaths across several states, including Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

One recent fatality involved a 46-year-old man from Inverness, who died after his vehicle struck a falling tree early Tuesday morning. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on East Parsons Point Road. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The FDLE had initially reported two deaths connected to the hurricane but later revised the number down to one on Monday, as investigations into each case continue.
