Husband Held on High Bond Amid Search for Suzanne Simpson
According to legal experts, the high bond is an unusual move, especially since the charges against him are misdemeanors. Former homicide detective Ted Williams speculated that authorities may be using the bond as a tactic to keep Brad behind bars while they continue their investigation into Suzanne’s disappearance.
“$2 million for misdemeanors is rarely done,” Williams told Fox News Digital. “It’s clear they are trying to hold him as they continue their recovery operation.” Suzanne, 51, was last seen on October 6, following a reported altercation with her husband. The couple had been married for 22 years, and tensions reportedly escalated during an argument at a club in Olmos Park, outside San Antonio. Police have since been searching the area, including a landfill, for any sign of Suzanne.
Federal Gun Charges Keep Brad Simpson in Custody
While Brad was initially arrested on family violence charges in connection to Suzanne’s disappearance, a federal detainer related to a gun charge is preventing his release from jail. According to an affidavit, investigators discovered that Brad unlawfully possessed a short-barreled rifle, which was not registered as required by federal law. He could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the firearm violation.
The federal charge arose after police searched the Simpson home on October 9. A family member later turned in several firearms, including the unregistered rifle, to the Olmos Park Police Department. This discovery added to the suspicion surrounding Brad’s involvement in his wife’s disappearance.
Despite efforts to interview Brad about the events of October 6, police have described him as uncooperative, further fueling speculation. Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas noted that typically, individuals not involved in criminal activity voluntarily speak to law enforcement. However, Brad’s lack of cooperation has drawn criticism, even from his own family.
Family Pleads for Cooperation as Investigation Continues
In the wake of Suzanne’s disappearance, Brad’s family has publicly condemned his refusal to cooperate with authorities. Suzanne’s brother-in-law, Barton Simpson, expressed frustration in a Facebook post, stating, “This is not how Brad was raised, and this is not who we are as a family.” He added that the family’s lives had been “irreparably changed” and that they would not rest until they found Suzanne.
Investigators are currently focusing on a landfill as part of their search efforts, indicating a shift in the investigation’s tone. Authorities believe it is increasingly unlikely that Suzanne is alive, with her mother, Barbara Clark, expressing her doubts about her daughter’s survival. Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Deon Cockrell confirmed that the landfill search is ongoing, and San Antonio Police Department cadets have also joined the search efforts.
Suzanne Simpson was last seen around 11 p.m. on October 6, in the 500 block of East Olmos. She is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. As the search continues, her family and community are left grappling with uncertainty and hoping for closure.
