In relation to a mass shooting at Apalachee High School last month that claimed four lives, a Georgia grand jury indicted a teenage boy and his father on dozens of crimes, including murder, officials announced Thursday According to court documents, Colt Gray, 14, was charged by a Barrow County grand jury on 55 charges, including four counts of felony murder and four counts of malice murder, in connection with the September 4 shooting on the Winder campus. He is facing adult charges for shooting two kids and two teachers to death and injuring nine others.

In addition, he was charged with severe assault and first-degree cruelty to minors. According to documents from the Barrow County District Attorney’s Office, his father, Colin Gray, was charged with 29 offenses, including reckless conduct, involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and second-degree cruelty to minors. Separate indictments were filed against the father and his kid.

Gray handed his kid an AR-15-style firearm as a gift, according to two law enforcement sources who spoke to NBC News last month and were familiar with the investigation. According to the sources, Gray provided him the weapon after they were questioned by law enforcement in May 2023 on allegations of threats to carry out a school shooting on the internet.

In order to formally enter a plea, both are expected to appear for arraignment on November 21. The Associated Press stated that Colin Gray is being kept in the Barrow County jail while his kid is being held in a Gainesville juvenile detention facility. Last month, Barrow County District Attorney Brad Smith stated that the charges against Colin Gray were the first against a father of a suspected school shooter in the history of the state. Christian Angulo, 14, Mason Schermerhorn, 14, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and 53-year-old Cristina Irimie were all killed.
