Miami Dolphins Fall to Colts 16-10 After QB Richardson’s Late Scoring Drives
Tyler Goodson’s rushing touchdown and Anthony Richardson’s two late-game drives led the Indianapolis Colts to a 16-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Colts Overcome Dolphins with Late Surge
Matt Gay’s 22-yard field goal with 8:41 left in the game gave Indianapolis their first lead, and a defensive stand in the final minute secured the win. The Dolphins (2-4) had a chance to tie the game with a 54-yard field goal attempt by Jason Sanders, but the kick bounced off the left upright, ending Miami’s hopes. The Colts (4-3), now on a three-game home winning streak, have won four of their last five games since their opening loss to Houston.
Injuries and Struggles for Miami
The Dolphins’ struggles continued, losing their quarterback Tyler Huntley to a right shoulder injury midway through the third quarter. Huntley, who had thrown a touchdown pass earlier in the game, did not return. Backup quarterback Tim Boyle stepped in but could not ignite a comeback. Miami’s offensive woes were evident throughout the game, and their inability to convert turnovers and capitalize on opportunities kept them from regaining control.
Huntley’s performance before his injury was solid, going 7-of-13 for 87 yards and a touchdown, but his exit left the Dolphins reeling. Boyle finished with 74 passing yards and struggled to find key playmakers like Tyreek Hill, who managed only one catch for 8 yards. Miami’s running game, led by Devon Achane with 77 yards, was effective but couldn’t compensate for the lack of offensive firepower in the second half.
Colts Rally in Second Half
Indianapolis found momentum in the second half after trailing 10-3 at halftime. Raheem Mostert’s fumble gave the Colts an opportunity, which they turned into a game-tying touchdown with Tyler Goodson’s first NFL score. Anthony Richardson, returning after an extended absence, showed rust, completing only 10 of 24 passes for 129 yards, but his leadership in the fourth quarter helped secure the victory. Richardson also contributed with his legs, rushing for 56 yards on 14 carries, though he did lose a fumble in his first game since Week 4. Goodson added 51 rushing yards, complementing the Colts’ steady ground game. The turning point came after another Miami fumble, this time by Alec Ingold, which led to Gay’s go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter. Gay sealed the win with another field goal, a 38-yarder, with just under two minutes left to play.
Colts Honor Dallas Clark
At halftime, former Colts tight end Dallas Clark was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor. Clark, who played for Indianapolis from 2003 to 2011, was a key part of the Colts’ offense during their Super Bowl run. Hall of Famers Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Edgerrin James attended the ceremony, which celebrated Clark’s contributions to the team, including 649 receptions, 4,887 yards, and 46 touchdowns during his Colts career.
Rough Start and What’s Next
A minor setback occurred before the game as mechanical issues with the stadium’s retractable roof forced the Colts to keep it closed despite the sunny weather. Team owner Jim Irsay expressed disappointment on social media, apologizing to fans.
Looking ahead, the Dolphins will host the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday as they aim to bounce back from their recent struggles. The Colts, now riding momentum, will begin a two-game road trip, starting next week in Houston.
