Xavier Newman traveling back with Jets after neck injury

After being dragged off the field and sent to the hospital due to a neck injury he sustained at Acrisure Stadium, New York Jets guard Xavier Newman was supposed to return with the team on Sunday night. Newman was examined thoroughly at a hospital in the Pittsburgh region. “Thank the Lord, his tests came back negative,” stated Jeff Ulbrich, the interim coach of the Jets. “Huge relief from that.”

During a third-quarter interception return against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Newman sustained an injury. Linebacker Patrick Queen, who was blocking on the return, knocked the 6-foot-2, 297-pound guard off his feet. After landing on his back and lying still for a few minutes, Newman was secured to a spine board.

As Newman received medical care, worried players knelt around him. During the telecast, NBC Sports stated that Newman was taken by ambulance and that his limbs were moving. Although Newman is a backup, he played in place of Alijah Vera-Tucker, who departed the game due to an ankle injury in the second quarter.
