Lions’ Jameson Williams Suspended 2 Games by NFL for Violating PED Policy

Jameson Williams, a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, has been suspended by the NFL for two games for breaking the league’s Performance-Enhancing Substances policy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. According to Eric Woodyard of ESPN, Williams expressed disappointment with the circumstances but stated that he had “no choice but to take it on the chin.” Williams stated, “I’m in good spirits just ready to get back with my brothers ASAP as soon as possible,” according to Woodyard.

Prior to the ban, Williams’ third season in the league was off to a fantastic start. With 361 receiving yards and three touchdowns, the former No. 12 pick in the 2022 NFL draft is second only to top receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on the Lions. Williams has had a difficult start to his NFL career, despite being a standout in college.

During his rookie season, he only played six games while he healed from an ACL tear he sustained while attending Alabama for college. Additionally, this is his second suspension in his brief career. Last season, he was suspended for four games for breaking the NFL’s gambling rules by using a club facility to place mobile bets on non-NFL games. The six-game punishment was then lowered to four games.

Williams will now have to miss time once more, but he hopes to recover from the suspension and keep playing for the Lions as they aim for another winning year. Detroit is off to a 5-1 start to the season and is coming off a 31-29 win over the Minnesota Vikings to hand their division rival their first loss of the season.
