A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Pompano Beach that claimed the life of a pedestrian last week. Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Willian Eduardo Beltran Velasquez. He faces multiple charges related to the crash that occurred on October 13, which resulted in the death of 43-year-old Don Larkin. The Broward Sheriff’s Office stated they received an emergency call shortly after 4 a.m., reporting a person lying unresponsive on North Dixie Highway, near Northeast 17th Court. When first responders arrived, they found Larkin in the roadway, already deceased from the impact.

Detectives at the scene of the crash discovered parts from a vehicle, which suggested that a Nissan Rogue had been involved in the accident and had sustained front-end damage. This evidence became crucial in identifying the suspect vehicle. On Sunday, police located a Nissan Rogue in Coral Springs that matched the description of the car involved in the fatal hit-and-run. The vehicle had damage consistent with striking a pedestrian. Investigators traced the car back to its owner, Velasquez, who was promptly arrested. Velasquez now faces serious charges, including leaving the scene of an accident involving death and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Records also show that Velasquez is being held under an immigration hold, complicating his legal status.

Don Larkin’s family is devastated by the loss, particularly his mother, Annie Larkin, who expressed her grief in a recent interview. She emphasized the senselessness of his death and the lasting impact it would have on his family. “He was a pretty good person, nice. He did not harm nobody, he just wanted to do what he wanted to do,” she added.
