Missing North Kingstown Woman Found Safe After Hours-Long Search
After hours of searching, North Kingstown police announced Wednesday that a woman reported missing had been found safe. According to Police Chief John Urban, the woman walked to a nearby friend’s house, where she was eventually located.
“She walked to a friend’s house down the road. Her friend was aware, through media outlets and social media, that we were looking for her and transported her back, intending to bring her home. That’s where we made contact with her,” Urban stated.
Around 6:30 p.m., McKay was last seen asking a resident on Cold Spring Lane for water and a flashlight, according to Urban. This was roughly 18 hours before she was located.
The search involved multiple agencies, including the North Kingstown Fire Department, state police, a canine search-and-rescue team, and even the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Authorities also urged local residents to check their properties and security cameras for any clues that might help locate McKay.
Chief Urban expressed gratitude for the community’s involvement, saying, “Thanks to them, you know, huge. Thanks to the community and the media. Without everybody’s input, a lot of times these don’t have a happy ending.”
Fortunately, this search did, and McKay was found unharmed, bringing a positive resolution to the case.
