With election day only two days away, South Florida saw a significant turnout on the final day of early voting.

High Early Voting Numbers in South Florida

According to the Florida Division of Elections, more than 7.8 million Floridians have already cast their ballots through early in-person voting or mail-in ballots. The turnout is nearly evenly split among political affiliations, with 2.5 million registered Republicans and approximately 1.3 million registered Democrats. Additionally, over 1 million voters with no party affiliation participated in early voting, underscoring the broad interest in this year’s election.

Miami-Dade County recorded over 800,000 early ballots cast, while Broward County saw an equally impressive turnout. NBC6 footage from the Westchester Regional Library in Miami-Dade showed steady streams of voters throughout the weekend, signaling a high level of civic engagement leading up to election day.

Broward’s High Turnout and Remaining Voters

In Broward County, early voter turnout has exceeded expectations. Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott confirmed that 430,000 residents voted early in person, while an additional 239,000 returned their vote-by-mail ballots. Scott noted that about half a million registered voters in Broward County have yet to vote and will either need to visit their designated precincts on election day or drop off their mail ballots at the Office of the Supervisor of Elections. “There’s a question mark over who will show up to vote, but we’re hopeful,” Scott shared. Broward County’s voter turnout as of Sunday morning reached 56%, surpassing the turnout recorded in the 2020 election. The robust turnout reflects heightened engagement among voters, possibly driven by key issues on the ballot.

Election Day: Preparations Underway for South Florida

With early voting officially ending at 7 p.m. on Sunday in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, both counties are now preparing for election day. On Tuesday, 358 polling precincts in Broward County are scheduled to open at 7 a.m., providing ample opportunity for voters who did not participate in early voting to make their voices heard. Local officials are preparing for a busy day, given the high volume of voters who have yet to cast their ballots.
