Disappearance of 57-Year-Old Kevin Hornburg on the Eve of Thanksgiving Leaves Family Searching for Answers

“He wouldn’t miss Thanksgiving dinner,” Susan Baldwin told Dateline about her brother, 57-year-old Kevin Hornburg. “If he was invited, he’d be there. And he’d always take home half a pie.”

On Wednesday, November 24, 2021—the night before Thanksgiving—Susan received a call from her brother Bobby Hornburg, who told her that no one had seen Kevin since Sunday, November 21. “Bobby thought maybe I had gone out to Jamestown to check on him,” she recalled.

For the past few months, Bobby had been living in Kevin’s apartment in Jamestown, New York, and Michael Brown, a family friend, had been staying there for about a month. According to Susan, Brown was the last person to see Kevin around 4 p.m. that day.

“Mike Brown said that Kevin just stepped off the porch and never came back,” Susan said. “He told me Kevin left to look for spare wood to fix someone’s window. That sounded like something Kevin would do.”

Dateline attempted to contact Brown but was unable to reach him.

It was snowing when Bobby called Susan that Wednesday night. “I can’t go driving in the dark in a snowstorm,” she remembers saying. “It’s snowing, it’s dark—I’ll look for Kevin tomorrow.” At the time, Susan didn’t think it was urgent and expected Kevin to return soon.

Kevin is one of six siblings and has a daughter. Susan emphasized that it was completely out of character for him to disappear without notifying anyone. “He loves family,” she said. “He loves being with us.”
