6-year-old accidentally shot himself with unsecured gun

25

According to officials, the uncle of a 6-year-old who unintentionally shot and killed himself in late September was put in handcuffs on Wednesday after detectives claim he is responsible for the child’s death. Carika Hall, 25, was meant to be minding Odaine Hall at his Tamarac residence, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office on September 30. Odaine shot himself after discovering an unlocked firearm. When Tamarac Fire Rescue and deputies arrived, they discovered the youngster with a single gunshot wound. He passed away at home.

Carika is charged with one count of culpable carelessness and neglect of a child after deputies apprehended him at his residence on Wednesday. The sheriff’s office stated, “BSO implores gun owners to properly secure their firearms and practice essential gun safety tips.” “A firearm must always be unloaded and kept in a locked storage container out of the reach of children.” By doing this, accidents like this one and unintended shootings are avoided, protecting both adults and children.
