Trussville Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Shooting of 20-Year-Old on Grandfather’s Porch
A suspect has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a 20-year-old man who collapsed and died on his grandfather’s front porch earlier this week.
Malik Farris, a 21-year-old from Trussville, now faces murder charges in the death of Amauria Caffey. In addition to the murder charge, Farris is also charged with first-degree theft of property and first-degree criminal mischief related to actions involving the victim’s property following the shooting, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
The incident occurred around 12:12 p.m. on Monday in the 1600 block of Fifth Street North, located in the Enon Ridge neighborhood. Authorities reported that more than 20 shots were fired during an argument that stemmed from a previous incident unrelated to either the victim or the suspect.
Family and friends gathered at the scene, visibly distraught by the tragedy. Caffey’s father attempted to cross the police perimeter to reach his son but was stopped by officers on duty. A man at the scene, identifying himself as Caffey’s grandfather, confirmed that his grandson had died on his front porch.
Following the incident, Farris surrendered to police and is currently being held without bond.
