COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 13-year-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert across Ohio on Friday has been found safe, officials confirmed.

The alert was issued around 3:30 p.m. after the young girl disappeared from the Columbus area. Later that evening, at approximately 6 p.m., NBC affiliate WCMH reported that authorities had located the vehicle driven by the suspect in Springfield, Ohio. Shortly afterward, investigators announced that the girl was found safe in Springfield.

The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Shane Smith, remains at large. Authorities state that Smith knew the girl and had previously engaged in an inappropriate relationship with her, convincing her to leave with him. Police urge anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts to contact them immediately.
