Ecuadorian and FC Cincinnati Player Marco Angulo Dies from Injuries in Tragic Car Crash
Ecuadorian soccer fans and the global football community are mourning the tragic loss of Marco Angulo, a 22-year-old player for Ecuador’s L.D.U. Quito and on loan from Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati. Angulo succumbed to injuries sustained in an October 7 car crash, which also claimed the lives of his former youth team teammate Roberto Cabezas and the car’s driver. The fatal accident occurred on the Rumiñahui highway southeast of Quito, where the car crashed into a metal barrier. Cabezas, a player with Independiente Juniors, and the driver died at the scene. Angulo survived the crash but suffered serious head injuries and a lung contusion, leading doctors to place him in an artificial coma. Sadly, he passed away from his injuries on Monday night, according to Ecuador’s El Universo newspaper.
Angulo’s promising career had seen him rise through the ranks to become a prominent midfielder. While he played for Ecuadorian league champion L.D.U. Quito, he was also on loan from FC Cincinnati in the MLS, showcasing his talent across international leagues.
