An 89-year-old woman who went missing from an assisted living facility in Marietta on Friday, sparking an intensive weekend-long search, was tragically found deceased on Monday morning. Authorities located her body, bringing an end to the search efforts that had mobilized the community over the past few days.
The body of Patricia Miele was discovered floating in a pond near Kennesaw Memorial Park. Authorities recovered her remains from the water, marking the grim conclusion to the search for the missing 89-year-old woman.
Marietta Police Chief David Beam confirmed the news of Patricia Miele’s death shortly after 3 p.m. through a social media post. While he shared the unfortunate update, he refrained from providing additional details surrounding the circumstances of her passing at that time.
“I want to pass on our sympathy to the family and loved ones of Mrs. Miele. In Mrs. Miele, we saw our own mothers and grandmothers, and we wanted nothing more than to find her safely and return her to you. While that wasn’t the outcome, know that our efforts were genuine, thorough, and led by a servant’s heart. You will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Beam said in a Facebook post.
In the wake of Patricia Miele’s disappearance, community members came together to assist in the search for the 89-year-old woman, who police had deemed to be at risk. Authorities reported that Miele went missing around 11 p.m. on Friday from the Greenwood Assisted Living and Memory Care facility, located on the 1100 block of Whitlock Avenue in Marietta.
The search efforts were extensive, involving police K9 units, drones, and even a helicopter from the Georgia State Patrol. Additionally, officers reached out to local residents, urging them to review their outdoor security cameras for any potential sightings of Miele in the hopes of gathering crucial information. Despite the efforts, the search ended tragically with the discovery of her body on Monday morning.

“While the outcome of this incident was not what we had all hoped for, I wanted to take a minute to thank those who stepped forward to help search for Mrs. Miele. To the officers and staff of the Marietta Police Department, Marietta Fire Department and the numerous other public safety agencies who assisted with the search, the hundreds of hours you put forward over the last three days speak to your level of professionalism. I consider all of you heroes,” Beam said.

“I also want to thank the Marietta community members who came together for Mrs. Miele. Whether you shared information about her disappearance or actually spent time looking for her, you are what makes Marietta so special. You love the Marietta community, and it shows. The men and women of the Marietta Police Department are proud of you and embrace the partnership we share. We could never carry out our duties to the high level that we do without the community’s support and partnership. Please keep Mrs. Miele’s family and friends in your prayers during this difficult time.”
