The family of Hannah Kobayashi, a woman from Haiku on the Hawaiian island of Maui, is urgently investigating her mysterious disappearance. Kobayashi, a 30-year-old photographer, went missing on November 11, three days after missing her connecting flight to New York at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). She had been en route to the city for a concert, a photography job, and to visit her sister.

Her aunt, Larie Pidgeon, spoke to KITV News about the unsettling events surrounding her disappearance. According to Pidgeon, after Kobayashi arrived in Los Angeles on November 8, she began sending increasingly disturbing text messages to her loved ones.

One of the messages, sent to Pidgeon in New York, read, “I just finished a very intense spiritual awakening.” Later, the tone of the messages grew more alarming as Kobayashi apologized for the “craziness” and mentioned that she had “definitely been intercepted.”

Pidgeon noted that things began to take a strange turn when Kobayashi landed in Los Angeles. It was at that point that communication with her became sporadic and unclear.

Pidgeon described how the situation rapidly became “fuzzy,” with the family losing contact with Kobayashi, leading them to fear something was wrong.

On the same day that Hannah Kobayashi sent the unsettling message to her aunt, she also reached out to her roommate, expressing fear and concern.

In the text, Kobayashi described feeling scared and worried that someone might be attempting to steal her money or her identity. According to her aunt, Larie Pidgeon, this was the last message Kobayashi sent before she vanished.

In response to the alarming situation, Pidgeon has contacted authorities in Los Angeles and the FBI to help with the search for her niece.

On November 10, just days before her disappearance, Kobayashi attended a LeBron James Nike event at The Grove in Los Angeles. Pidgeon shared that Kobayashi was featured in a video vlog posted to YouTube, showing her at the event.

Additionally, an Instagram account believed to belong to Kobayashi shared a photo from the same day, capturing a pair of Nike shoes reflected in a store window, further confirming her presence at the event.

In an interview with KITV, Larie Pidgeon, the aunt of missing woman Hannah Kobayashi, revealed that her niece’s phone was last traced to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on November 11, a detail she also confirmed to E! News.

Pidgeon explained that Kobayashi’s phone was “pinging” in the airport, but shortly after, the phone stopped responding, and calls went directly to voicemail. The phone did not move from the airport, leading Pidgeon to believe that her niece remained in the area.

Pidgeon further stressed how out of character this situation is for Kobayashi, noting that her niece is typically very responsible. She highlighted that Kobayashi had been eagerly anticipating the event in Los Angeles, having spent a significant amount of money preparing for it. Pidgeon mentioned that Kobayashi had already paid for an expensive hotel room worth thousands of dollars and purchased event tickets worth hundreds, underscoring that this behavior was completely untypical for her.

With emotions running high, Pidgeon delivered a heartfelt message directly to her niece, saying, “We will not stop until we find you, you have so many family, you have so many friends who love you so, so, so much.” She continued, choking up as she reassured Kobayashi, “If you’re feeling scared or if you feel alone, you are not. We are with you.”

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed to E! News that a missing person report has been filed for Kobayashi, and the investigation into her disappearance is ongoing.
