Trump Shocks Nation by Naming Sean Duffy as Transportation Secretary – Here’s Why It’s a Game-Changer

On Monday, Fox Business News personality and former Wisconsin Representative Sean Duffy was announced as the nominee for transportation secretary by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. In addition to the substantial cash that is still available under the Biden administration’s $1 trillion infrastructure program for 2021 and EV charging stations, Duffy, if confirmed, will be in charge of aviation, automobile, rail, transit, and other transportation policy at the department, which has a budget of roughly $110 billion. Duffy posted on social media, “I can’t wait to help you usher in a new golden age of transportation.”

Trump has promised to undo the car pollution regulations put in place by the Biden administration. He has stated that as soon as he assumes office, he will start the process of repealing the strict emissions rules that the Biden administration adopted earlier this year. The regulations encourage automakers to produce more EVs and reduce tailpipe emissions limitations by 50% from 2026 levels by 2032. There will be several significant transportation problems for Duffy.

Although they have decreased this year, traffic fatalities in the US are still far higher than they were before COVID. This year’s death rate is still greater than it has been since 2008, the year before the outbreak. Tesla and other automakers will put pressure on him to relax regulations pertaining to self-driving cars.

When rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges, and airports, Duffy will put “Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness, and Beauty” first, according to Trump. He will guarantee that our dams and ports support our economy without endangering our national security.

Duffy opens a new tab and will be in charge of Boeing’s (BA.N) ongoing improved oversight. After a door panel missing four crucial bolts flew off an Alaska Airlines (ALK.N) new model 737 MAX 9 in midair that month, revealing significant safety flaws at Boeing, the Federal Aviation Administration, a division of USDOT, stopped manufacture at 38 737 MAX aircraft per month in January. He will also determine whether to authorize additional airline joint ventures and whether to carry on the Biden administration’s advocacy for aviation passenger rights. Additionally, Duffy will oversee businesses owned by Elon Musk, who has been heavily involved in Trump’s transition.

For breaking space licensing regulations, the FAA has suggested fining SpaceX, and USDOT is looking into Tesla TSLA.O Autopilot. Musk has demanded that FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker resign. A number of near-miss events involving passenger jets have prompted safety concerns, and a persistent controller deficit has caused flight delays at many sites. Following the derailment of a Norfolk Southern (NSC.N) new tab train in East Palestine, Ohio, in February 2023, Congress has also been exploring major rail safety measures. Duffy will also be responsible for managing billions of dollars in funding for Amtrak and high-speed rail projects.

Emil Michael, a former Uber (UBER.N) executive who was a serious candidate for the position, praised Duffy and stated that “it was the honor of a lifetime to even be considered.”
