Elon Musk Joins Trump’s Inner Circle: Chosen to Revolutionize Government Efficiency
New Delhi: Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has become an increasingly prominent figure in the orbit of US President-elect Donald Trump. His close ties to Trump were highlighted once again when Musk joined a congratulatory call from Google CEO Sundar Pichai to the President-elect, according to The Information
.
Pichai reportedly called Trump to congratulate him on his victory over Kamala Harris in the recent US presidential election. Musk’s participation in the call further cements his role as a key ally to the President-elect, earning him the moniker “First Buddy” in political circles.
Musk’s connection to Trump extends beyond symbolic gestures. The two have been seen together at several high-profile events, including the launch of SpaceX’s Starship rocket and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight bout on November 16.
Trump has now formalized Musk’s role in his administration by appointing him to lead the newly formed “Department of Government Efficiency.” Musk will share leadership of the department with Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. The initiative is a centerpiece of Trump’s “Save America” campaign, aimed at reducing government bureaucracy, cutting wasteful expenditures, and overhauling federal agencies.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” Trump said in a statement.
Musk’s appointment comes as little surprise, given his public criticisms of inefficiency in both private and public sectors. In the past, Musk has clashed with Google over alleged biases in its search engine algorithms, claiming that searches for Trump frequently surfaced news about his opponent, Kamala Harris.
With his new government role, Musk will now have an opportunity to enact sweeping changes to federal agencies while working closely with Trump and Ramaswamy. This marks a new chapter in Musk’s already multifaceted career, placing him at the forefront of policy reform in the next administration.
