CNN Shakes Things Up: Kaitlan Collins Takes on Trump’s White House Drama
One of CNN’s top reporters and anchors, Kaitlan Collins, will report on President-elect Trump’s second term in the White House and continue to anchor a prime-time show. Collins will continue to headline her weekly 9 p.m. show, “The Source,” and take on the role of anchor and top White House correspondent beginning in January. In an announcement announcing the decision, CNN Chair Mark Thompson remarked, “Kaitlan Collins is the ideal person to lead coverage of the new Trump White House.” “Kaitlan is a political journalist with genuine depth and perseverance who already has an incredible track record of exclusive interviews and scoops.”
According to the network, Collins joined CNN in 2017 and has covered a number of topics during the Biden and Trump administrations, including significant staff departures and significant policy choices. Just months before then-CNN Chair Chris Licht was fired, she held a town hall with Trump on the network last summer that caused internal staff resentment. Collins was first selected by Licht to co-host a redesigned network morning show, which was later discontinued while the seasoned news reporter was promoted to lead a prime-time show. Collins has interviewed and discussed the day’s news with numerous lawmakers and newsmakers since starting “The Source.”
