Shocking Twist: Marilyn Manson Abruptly Drops Defamation Case Against Evan Rachel Wood – Here’s Why

25

According to Deadline, Marilyn Manson has withdrawn his long-running defamation lawsuit against actor Evan Rachel Wood and agreed to pay her roughly $327,000 in legal fees. In February 2021, Wood had named Manson as her abuser, accusing him of sexual assault, psychological abuse, violence, coercion, and intimidation. In 2021, the Westworld actor accused her former partner on social media of “horrific” abuse and of grooming her beginning when she was a teenager. Other women made similar claims after Wood’s public condemnation, which Manson denied, referring to them as “horrible distortions of reality.” In response, Manson filed a lawsuit against Wood in March 2022, citing defamation and emotional distress.

As a publicity ploy, Marilyn Manson, whose actual name is Brian Warner, sued Ms. Wood in an attempt to resurrect his waning career and cast doubt on his numerous accusers. However, his attempt to intimidate and silence Ms. Wood was unsuccessful, according to a statement from Wood’s representative that Rolling Stone was able to get. Warner’s allegations were without merit, as the trial court correctly concluded. This is further supported by Warner’s decision to drop his action and give Ms. Wood her whole fee award of about $327,000.

In 2023, a judge dismissed parts of Manson’s case and mandated that he pay around $500,000 in legal fees. After his lawsuit was dropped, Manson filed an appeal against the ruling, which apparently seems to have been unsuccessful. Deadline claims that Manson signed court documents yesterday that signaled the conclusion of the case and the commitment to cover Wood’s legal costs.
