Shocking Twist: Hunter Biden’s Gun Case Vanishes After President Biden’s Bold Pardon Move
Following President Joe Biden’s broad pardon of his son, a federal judge dismissed the gun prosecution against Hunter Biden on Tuesday. The week before Hunter Biden was scheduled to be sentenced, U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika closed the case. Although he might have received far less time or been spared prison altogether as a first-time offender, he might have been sentenced to up to 25 years in prison. In court filings, prosecutors argued against the case being dismissed, stating that a pardon shouldn’t erase the matter “as if it never occurred.” After lying on a federal paperwork to buy a pistol in Delaware in 2018, Hunter Biden was found guilty of three felonies. During that time, he admitted to using drugs.
Additionally, the special counsel for the Justice Department opposes the dismissal of a California case involving Hunter Biden’s nonpayment of $1.4 million in taxes. Los Angeles U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi declared that after the pardon was officially received, he will dismiss the case. Scarsi, however, criticized the president’s claim that his son was singled out for political reasons, pointing out that two courts had dismissed identical claims made by his defense lawyers.
As Biden gets ready to leave, the president’s decision on Sunday to break his earlier promises and grant his son a broad federal pardon for acts over the previous 11 years has caused a political uproar in Washington, drawing criticism from both Republicans and many Democrats office on Jan 20. Last year, Hunter Biden was set to reach a plea agreement with prosecutors that would have spared him from jail time, but the deal fell through after Noreika raised concerns about some of its peculiarities.
