On Monday, President-elect Donald Trump revealed his decision to appoint Warren Stephens, a prominent investment banker, as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom. The announcement marks a significant step in shaping Trump’s diplomatic team, with Stephens set to play a key role in fostering the historically strong ties between the United States and the UK. Known for his extensive experience in finance and business, Stephens is expected to bring a unique perspective to the role, emphasizing economic and strategic collaboration between the two nations.

“Warren has long aspired to dedicate himself fully to serving the United States, and I couldn’t be more excited that he now has the chance to do so as our leading diplomat to one of America’s most treasured allies,” Trump shared in a statement on Truth Social.

Donald Trump praised Warren Stephens as “one of the most successful businessmen in the country,” highlighting his extensive leadership experience as president, chairman, and CEO of Stephens Inc., a position he has held for 38 years. Trump also acknowledged Stephens’ philanthropic contributions, commending his dedication to giving back to his community.

Stephens, an Arkansas-based billionaire, inherited his company from his father and built a reputation not only as a financial leader but also as an influential Republican donor. In 2012, he served as a bundler for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign. Although Stephens initially supported conservative groups that opposed Trump during the 2016 election, he later aligned himself with Trump, backing him in the 2020 and 2024 presidential races.

In his announcement on Monday, Trump extended his congratulations to Stephens, as well as to his wife, three children, and six grandchildren, recognizing the support of his family in this new diplomatic role.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who congratulated Trump on his recent election victory, emphasized the enduring alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom. Starmer expressed his eagerness to work with Trump, stating that the two nations “stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of our shared values of freedom, democracy, and enterprise.”

In addition to appointing Stephens as U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, Trump has announced other key ambassadorial selections. Charles Kushner, father of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, has been tapped to serve as U.S. ambassador to France. Meanwhile, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has been chosen as the U.S. ambassador to Israel, further solidifying Trump’s diplomatic roster.
