These Retirees Will Receive Their Social Security Check on December 11—Find Out if You’re on the List
With Christmas approaching, we all appear to be focused on the New Year, yet there is still a whole month left with so much crammed into it! There are still many Social Security payments to be given in December. Because the end of the year is a busy period for retirees, disabled people, and other beneficiaries, any extra cash will be welcomed. The Social Security Administration adheres to a rigorous payment calendar, ensuring all payments are distributed on time and to the correct beneficiaries. However, during high holidays and festive activities, it is easy for that calendar to be temporarily derailed and beneficiaries to become disoriented.
Vital dates for retirement Social Security cheques in December:
Every month has its schedule because of the calendar quirks that come with the months of the year, but in general, payments can be divided into three categories:
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI): Distributed to all beneficiaries on the first of the month.
- Beneficiaries who began receiving benefits before May 1997: They receive them on the third of each month.
- Beneficiaries who began receiving benefits after May 1997: recipients with birthdays on the 1st-10th of the month will receive their benefits on the second Wednesday of each month, those born on the 11th-20th will receive payouts on the third Wednesday, and those born on the 21st-31st will receive payments on the fourth Wednesday.
Applying this rough calendar to December yields the following benefit dates:
- November 29: SSI payment for December, as December 1 falls on a Sunday.
- December 3: Social Security payment for people receiving benefits before May 1997.
- December 11: Social Security payment for persons born between the first and tenth of any month beginning after May 1997.
- December 18: Social Security payment for persons born between the 11th and 20th of any month and receiving benefits after May 1997.
- December 24: Social Security payment for persons born between the 21st and 31st of any month who became beneficiaries after May 1997.
- December 31: SSI payment for January 2025, as January 1 is a national holiday.
Given that it is a complicated time of year, many beneficiaries are concerned about unnecessary delays and lost checks; however, as long as all of your information is correct and the SSA is notified of changes in addresses or other relevant data promptly, there should be no reason for your payment to be delayed. Minimal errors could disrupt the payment procedure, especially during a high-demand season. Still, if all of your checks have arrived on time throughout the year, there is no reason to expect this time to differ.
