Gavin Newsom Slams President-Elect Trump’s Border Tariffs in Fiery California Speech – Is This a Bold Move or a Political Stunt?”

85

California Governor and Democratic leader Gavin Newsom strongly criticized President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada during his visit to the Otay Mesa East Port of Entry on Thursday. Newsom, who plans to complete the border crossing project by December 2027, expressed grave concerns about the economic impact of the tariffs, as reported by Fox News.

Calling the tariffs a “betrayal” and “one of the biggest tax increases in U.S. history,” Newsom warned of the damage they would inflict on California’s consumers, small businesses, and farmers. Addressing citizens, he said, “Don’t think for a second this won’t impact you. Ninety percent of these tariffs will affect the bottom of our economic chain, meaning lower-wage workers who will bear over half of these taxes.”

Newsom’s remarks highlight growing tensions over trade policies that could disproportionately affect working-class Americans and key sectors of California’s economy.
