Palm Beach Co. deputy docked three days pay for pedicure
According to an Internal Affairs report, a PBSO deputy was placed on 24-hour unpaid leave for “engaging in conduct which adversely affected the public’s respect for the agency.”
Back on April 15, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) Deputy Guillermina Scantland got a pedicure while wearing her PBSO uniform. PBSO received two pictures.
In one picture, Scantland was seen in uniform in a Royal Palm Beach nail salon, receiving a pedicure while seated in an enormous brown leather chair.
Another image, in which the face was obscured, showed a female PBSO deputy in uniform inside a Publix store next to the nail salon. She was wearing yellow flip-flops, which are associated with getting a pedicure, and her pant legs were rolled up.
Deputy Scantland stated that she did not have time to change out of her PBSO uniform after her duty, so she had a pedicure while still in her outfit. She said that she could carry out her responsibilities while having a pedicure, adding, “I can probably run faster without shoes.”
She clarified that because of recent car break-ins involving marked cop cars, she wore her pistol belt inside the nail business. She also acknowledged that the picture of a PBSO officer inside a Publix with her pants legs rolled up and yellow flip-flops was of her.
Deputy Scantland informed IA that her behavior was “not the best choice” and that she would never repeat it, whether while on or off duty.
