Trump Takes a Savage Shot at Trudeau, Calls Him the ‘Governor’ of the ‘Great State of Canada’ – You Won’t Believe What He Said Next
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was referred to as the “governor” of the “Great State of Canada” by President-elect Donald Trump overnight after he recently threatened to impose taxes on Ontario. “It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada,” Trump said shortly after midnight on Tuesday on his Truth Social account. “I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!”
When asked about the joke, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung simply responded, “It’s so good.” A request for response was not immediately answered by Trudeau’s office. According to two persons at the table who overheard the conversation, Fox News said that Trump recently made a joke about Canada being the 51st state, even bringing up the idea directly to Trudeau over their meal at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida residence.
During his interview with host Kristen Welker on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” last week, Trump offered a similar statement while explaining how his proposal to slap tariffs on Canada and Mexico would make the United States “rich,” referring to the trade gap between the United States and Canada as a type of subsidy. “Canada is receiving nearly $100 billion in subsidies from us annually. Mexico is receiving about $300 billion in subsidies from us. Why are we giving these nations subsidies when we shouldn’t be? “Let them become a state if we’re going to provide them with subsidies,” he said in the statement.
According to The Associated Press, Trudeau declared Monday that Canada would react to discriminatory tariffs “just as we did eight years ago.” Trump hosted Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago on November 30 and claimed on Truth Social that the two had a “very productive meeting” during which they talked about “fair trade deals,” illegal immigration, and the fentanyl and heroin epidemic. After the meeting, Trudeau told reporters that he had a “great” talk with Trump but declined to answer any further questions.
Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, was questioned on Fox News last week over Trump’s purported jest about Canada joining the United States. Trump’s sense of humor was praised by Ford. It’s a humorous remark. It’s a humorous remark. I suppose he’s still angry that we set fire to your White House in 1812, and he’s still harboring resentment 212 years later,” he remarked. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., made a joke this month that he would be in favor of Canada joining the United States.
