Shocking Seattle Road Sign Targets CEO Shooting: ‘Many More to Go’ Sparks Outrage
Early Thursday morning, a KOMO News photographer noticed a troubling message on a portable electronic road sign on a major Seattle thoroughfare.
On one screen, the sign near Dexter Ave. N. on Highway 99’s southbound lanes said “ONE LESS CEO,” then on a second screen, it flashed to read “MANY MORE TO GO.”
According to Ethan Bergerson, press secretary for the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), the sign did not belong to any official agency, including the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) or the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT).
The sign is the property of a private building constructor. According to Bergerson, an SDOT team was sent to look into the sign Thursday morning, but by the time they got there, the message had been taken down.
Who tampered with the sign is still unknown. Nearly 62,000 commuters cross the Aurora Bridge every day on average, which is located just north of where the placard was seen.
Given the shooting killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City last week, the incident has prompted inquiries regarding the message’s motivation.
