Election Windfall: Find Out Who’s Scoring a $100 Stimulus Check This Week

12

Mesa County, Colorado, residents will receive a reimbursement for the extra revenue the 111,839 active registered voters generated. This is one of the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) criteria, which voters themselves passed. TABOR restricts the increase of government revenue and forces the county to refund any surplus monies to taxpayers.

Who will receive a $100 stimulus payment this week

Mesa has raised more than $11 million

Mesa County collected roughly $11 million in 2023, $492,270 more than the TABOR maximum. Every active voter over 18 as of November 25, 2024, will receive a $100 refund per voter. The county started mailing refund checks on Monday, December 16, 2024. It should be emphasized that these refunds are only available to registered voters; therefore, if you are a resident and taxpayer, you are not qualified to get this benefit.

According to county officials, this is the only realistic method for returning the TABOR refund money to the community. “This is the best list we have to return the check,” stated Cody Davis, Mesa County Commissioner for District 1. “We don’t have a list of who lives here and don’t know the state tax income figures. The most comprehensive list we have is the Mesa County voter registration list. The refund monies were raised when the county collected more than $11 million above the TABOR limit.

Voters opted to return that money to the community, and most of them already know what they plan to do with it; some are thinking about Christmas shopping, while others are planning forward and putting the money into their children’s college funds.
