For Jamie Boucher, the situation is deeply emotional and unsettling. As a mother, she takes every precaution to ensure her daughter’s safety and well-being, doing everything within her power to protect her. The recent incident has shaken her, as it contradicts the sense of security she works hard to provide for her child.

“That’s your kid and to feel so helpless in that situation, and then afterwards too, you can’t do anything about it. It’s an upsetting situation,” Boucher said.

Last Tuesday, Jamie Boucher was horrified when her 8-year-old daughter, Melrose Santana, came home showing signs of a violent altercation. The young girl was bruised, covered in blood, and had suffered a chipped adult front tooth. A passerby who witnessed the incident intervened, stepping in to break up the situation before safely escorting Melrose back to her home. The traumatic experience left Boucher shaken and desperate for answers.

Jamie Boucher described the terrifying moment when her daughter, Melrose Santana, came rushing through the front door, visibly shaken, covered in blood, and panicking. In a frantic state, Melrose cried out, “They hit me, they hit me!” leaving her mother deeply alarmed and frightened. According to Melrose, the trouble began when a 6-year-old student, who had an older sibling on the bus, started harassing her by pulling on her bookbag and pestering her. After they both got off the bus, the girl began taunting Melrose, calling her names and mocking her appearance. Shortly after, someone pushed her down from behind.

Melrose recalled the cruel words spoken by the other child: “She calls me ugly, she tells me my lip is big,” adding that the bullying left her feeling so distraught that she declared, “I never wanted to go to school again.” Although the incident took place off school grounds, Boucher is left questioning whether the bullying began earlier on the school bus. The altercation occurred shortly after the children had exited Grove Park Elementary School in Palm Beach Gardens.

In search of answers, Jamie Boucher went to the school, but instead of finding clarity, she left feeling even more confused and frustrated. She requested to view the surveillance footage from the bus to understand what had happened, but was allegedly told that it wasn’t available to her. Additionally, she learned that the school principal had contacted the family of the other child involved, but didn’t provide much information about the steps being taken. “She did sit down and call the parents and everything, but in the end, it was just – I’m so sorry, and that was it,” Boucher said, expressing her disappointment with the lack of resolution.

In response to the incident, the School District of Palm Beach County issued a statement emphasizing that student safety and security is their top priority. The statement also mentioned that the matter is currently under investigation, with the district assuring that any student found to have violated the Student Code of Conduct will face strict disciplinary action. However, for Boucher, these assurances haven’t brought the answers or accountability she’s seeking.

Jamie Boucher spoke with Local 10 News, expressing her determination to explore all available options in response to the incident. She revealed that she is seriously considering pursuing legal action as a way to seek justice and accountability for what happened to her daughter. This includes reviewing her rights and potential steps she can take to ensure that the situation is addressed properly.
