Man sentenced to prison in 2021 crash that killed bicyclist in Weston

Tuesday saw the sentencing of a New York man involved in the 2021 Weston crash that killed a lady riding a bicycle.

In the case of vehicular homicide, Oion Skyvel Johnson received a sentence of two years in prison and ten years on probation.

Sunny LaValle, 44, was riding in the bike lane on Bonaventure Boulevard on May 23, 2021, when Johnson collided with her, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office officials.

Investigators eventually discovered that Johnson had drunk alcohol and had been sleep deprived prior to the collision.

Johnson, who is currently 27 years old, was extradited to Broward after being caught in Syracuse, New York, in December 2021.
