A Kentucky father, who had accumulated over $100,000 in unpaid child support, was arrested in Florida after years of evading authorities. Dominic Weaver, 47, was taken into custody by local police as he disembarked from a cruise ship in Miami last week. Officials reported that Weaver’s vacation, which had likely been planned as a much-needed break, ended in handcuffs.
Weaver had been on the run for several years, but his freedom came to an abrupt halt when law enforcement officers apprehended him. After his arrest, he was transported back to Kentucky, where he faces the charges of owing between $114,000 and $120,000 in child support. Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell confirmed the details, speaking to a local news outlet in Louisville.
In 2019, Dominic Weaver was sentenced to five years of probation for flagrant non-support of his children, according to Law and Crime. However, despite the court’s ruling, Weaver failed to comply with his financial obligations.
A Kentucky county official explained to WDRB that although they are uncertain of exactly when he left the area, Weaver fled the jurisdiction shortly after his sentence. Since then, he has not made any payments toward the child support he owes, leaving his outstanding balance untouched. As of today, no child support payments have been made by Weaver, further compounding his legal troubles.
Mike O’Connell, the Jefferson County Attorney, revealed that Dominic Weaver has four separate cases with the child support division. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, describing it as one of the most flagrant cases he has encountered.
O’Connell expressed his shock, telling the news station that this particular incident highlights the severity of Weaver’s actions and serves as a stark example of the failure to meet child support obligations.
The official intends to request that the court revoke Dominic Weaver’s original probation sentence and replace it with a prison term, potentially lasting up to four years.
Dominic Weaver’s failure to provide adequate financial support for his children was so severe that he was included on a 2021 list of parents who owe significant amounts for child care. At that time, county records show he owed nearly $100,000. Weaver is scheduled for arraignment on January 6.
