A Miramar family is facing the heartbreaking task of rebuilding their lives after a devastating fire destroyed their home on Monday, just days before the holiday season. The once-festive atmosphere has been replaced with uncertainty and loss.

“We don’t have a Christmas tree, no presents, nothing to celebrate with. We’re living in a hotel room now, trying to figure out our next steps,” said Henry Rodriguez, the homeowner, reflecting on the overwhelming challenges his family is enduring during what should be a joyful time of year.

Rodriguez explained that the fire began shortly after he had dropped off his two children at their grandmother’s house. Upon returning home, he was met with an unimaginable sight.

“When I opened the door, everything was just pitch black,” Rodriguez recalled. In a desperate attempt to control the situation, he took off his shirt and tried to fan the smoke, hoping to make his way inside. However, the intense heat and pressure from the flames pushed him back, making it impossible to enter and save anything.

Although the family is grateful to be safe, the loss of their two dogs, Mick and Sam, weighs heavily on them. “The hardest part was hearing my two dogs crying,”

Rodriguez shared, expressing the pain of knowing they couldn’t save their beloved pets. Since the fire, the family has been living in a hotel, struggling to cope with the aftermath. They’ve lost all of their clothing and personal belongings, and their children have nothing to wear or play with, making their already difficult situation even more challenging.

In a heartwarming gesture of support, the Miramar Police Department, in collaboration with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, delivered presents to the family to bring some holiday cheer. This thoughtful act of kindness helped brighten their spirits during a time of immense hardship, as they are struggling to rebuild after the devastating fire.
