Colorado Man Arrested for Assaulting News Reporter After Questioning Citizenship

A Colorado man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a television news reporter and making remarks questioning his U.S. citizenship while proclaiming, “This is Trump’s America now.” The incident occurred on December 18, when 39-year-old Patrick Thomas Egan reportedly followed KKCO/KJCT reporter Ja’Ronn Alex for approximately 40 miles from Delta to Grand Junction, Colorado.

According to an arrest affidavit cited by CNN, Egan, who was driving a taxi, confronted Alex at a stoplight and made inflammatory remarks. He allegedly said, “Are you even a US citizen? This is Trump’s America now! I’m a Marine, and I took an oath to protect this country from people like you!”

Details about the nature of the assault or injuries to Alex have not been disclosed. Authorities took Egan into custody following the incident, and he now faces charges related to the alleged assault.

The case has drawn widespread attention, sparking discussions about the role of racism, nationalism, and the safety of journalists in the United States. News organizations and press freedom advocates have expressed concern over the attack, emphasizing the importance of protecting journalists who serve as a cornerstone of democracy.
