Tragic Downtown Accident: 25-Year-Old Woman Killed, Man Seriously Injured in WPB

A 25-year-old woman was killed, and a 34-year-old man was injured in an early morning crash while crossing a street in downtown West Palm Beach.

A tragic crash early Sunday morning in downtown West Palm Beach resulted in the death of a 25-year-old woman and left a 34-year-old man seriously injured.

The incident occurred around 3:25 a.m. when a 2021 Tesla Model 3, driven by a 26-year-old man from West Palm Beach, collided with the couple as they were crossing Banyan Boulevard near the intersection of Rosemary Avenue.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) reported that the driver struck the pedestrians while they were in the crosswalk, leading to the fatality and injury.

The victims of the early morning crash have been identified as Melissa Nichole Carlene, 25, from West Palm Beach, and Roberto Sanchez Jr., 33, from Royal Palm Beach. The couple was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred.

However, according to Traffic Homicide detectives with the West Palm Beach Police Department, the Tesla had a green light at the time of the incident. Following the crash, paramedics quickly transported both Carlene and Sanchez to St. Mary’s Trauma Center for treatment. Deputies confirmed the couple’s urgent medical transport.

Deputies reported that Melissa Nichole Carlene succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at St. Mary’s Trauma Center. Roberto Sanchez Jr. was admitted to the hospital in serious condition and was immediately taken into surgery for treatment. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) stated that their investigation into the incident is still ongoing. As of now, no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
