Police in Washington are investigating after two men were found dead in a forest after going out to search for Sasquatch.
On Dec. 25, a family member reported the two men missing after they failed to return on Dec. 24 as planned, according to a news release from Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were able to access camera footage that showed the men’s vehicle on a road near Willard, a town on the southern border of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
More than 60 search-and-rescue volunteers, along with drones, canines, and air assets from the US Coast Guard, were used to look for the men.
After three days of searching, the two men, ages 37 and 59 and from nearby Portland, Oregon, were found dead in a “heavily wooded area” of the forest, officials said.
“Both deaths appear to be due to exposure, based on weather conditions and ill-preparedness,” police said.
Temperatures in Skamania County were as low as 38 degrees on Dec. 24, according to Localconditions.com.
Officials said the volunteers “fought through freezing temperatures, snow, high water levels, heavy rain, downfall, and heavily wooded terrain” to find the men.
“Their exhaustive search efforts resulted in bringing family members home to their loved ones,” officials said.

Officials have not released the identities of the men.
Also known as Bigfoot, yeti, and other names, Sasquatch “is a tall, hairy, bi-pedal, primate-like creature of disputed existence,” according to BBC.
There have been “37 notable Sasquatch sightings” near Harrison Hot Springs, British Colombia, just north of Washington, since 1900, according to the website.
