Authorities are actively investigating a fireworks-related incident that led to a man suffering a serious hand injury on Monday afternoon in Florida City. The explosion occurred shortly before 3 p.m. outside the M&M Meat Market on Lucy Street.

Police report that the man was inside a U-Haul SUV at the time, which was loaded with a substantial number of fireworks. After the explosion, the injured man drove himself to a residence in Homestead, where he sought help. Florida City Police Sergeant David Hunsberger confirmed that the injured individual had been inside the U-Haul, which contained a significant amount of fireworks. Witnesses at the Homestead home described the man’s injuries as gruesome, saying his hand appeared “mangled” as he waited in the driveway for paramedics to arrive.
