Hospitals across Broward and Miami-Dade Counties celebrated the arrival of 2025 with the birth of the year’s first babies, born just hours after midnight on Wednesday. These newborns hold a special distinction as they mark the beginning of a new generation, aptly named Gen Beta.

While these little ones brought joy to their families and communities, their timing comes with an interesting caveat. Babies born in the first hours of 2025 cannot be claimed as a tax deduction for the previous year, a benefit reserved for those born just a few hours earlier on December 31, 2024. Despite this, the excitement surrounding their arrival highlights the hope and promise of the New Year.

At HCA Florida Hospital in Davie, a beautiful New Year’s morning was marked by the arrival of Kallie Star Allwood, who was born at 6:07 a.m. on January 1st. The little one weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds and 2 ounces, bringing joy and excitement to her family as they welcomed their precious new addition.

Kallie Star Allwood and her mother, Jessica Isaac, are both healthy and doing well after the swift delivery at HCA Florida University Hospital. Kallie is the third child for Jessica, and the family couldn’t be happier with their decision to have their special moment at this hospital.

Jessica shared that the delivery was remarkably quick, stating, “It was a fast delivery. I delivered in under 30 minutes from the time I walked in the hospital. My original due date was January 10, but Kallie decided to make her grand entrance early on New Year’s Day.”

Madeline Nava, the CEO of HCA Florida University Hospital, expressed her excitement: “We are so happy to welcome baby Kallie as the first baby born at our hospital in 2025. Congratulations to the parents, and we look forward to supporting them on their journey of parenthood.” The Allwood family is now beginning an exciting new chapter as they welcome their beautiful baby girl.

At Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Angel Velazquez Martinez made his entrance into the world at 2:11 a.m. on New Year’s Day, weighing 4 pounds and 15 ounces. The newborn is the second child for his proud mother, Luz Martinez Arellano, and father, Gerardo Velazquez Camacho. Both parents expressed their joy and excitement at the arrival of their precious baby boy, looking forward to welcoming Angel into their growing family with love and warmth.

At Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, A’nali made her debut at 12:24 a.m. on New Year’s Day, marking a significant moment as the first baby born in the Memorial Healthcare System in Broward County in 2025.
