Alabama: “Gulf Storm Surge Threatens Alabama’s Coastline: Flash Flood Watches Issued!”

16

Mobile, Ala. – A storm system in the Gulf of Mexico is heading toward Alabama, bringing heavy rain and rising water levels. Flash flood watches are in effect for Mobile, Baldwin, and Washington counties through Tuesday evening.

What to Expect

The storm could bring 2 to 4 feet of water along the coast. Some areas might see even higher water levels, especially at high tide. Rainfall is expected to be heavy, with 3 to 6 inches in most places and up to 8 inches in some spots.

“This storm could cause serious flooding,” said meteorologist James Spann. “It’s important to get ready now.”

Who Is at Risk?

Areas near the coast, like Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island, could see the worst effects. Flooding may happen quickly, making roads unsafe and damaging homes. Low-lying areas and places near rivers or bays are at the highest risk.

How to Stay Safe

Officials are asking people to prepare. If you live in a flood-prone area, consider moving to higher ground. Secure outdoor items and have an emergency plan.

Key tips:

  • Do not drive through flooded roads. Just a foot of water can carry away a car.
  • Keep an emergency kit with water, food, and flashlights.
  • Stay updated using weather apps, radios, or local news.

“Floods can happen fast,” said an Alabama Emergency Management spokesperson. “Be ready and stay safe.”

What’s Next?

The storm is being closely watched, and more updates will come as it gets closer. Be prepared and follow safety guidelines.

Stay safe, Alabama!
