Melania Trump, the incoming First Lady, will be the focus of an upcoming documentary directed by filmmaker Brett Ratner. The project will be distributed by Amazon Prime Video, which has secured exclusive rights for both streaming and theatrical releases. According to a statement from the company on Sunday, the documentary is scheduled for release later this year, offering audiences an in-depth look at Melania Trump’s life and experiences.

Production has already begun on the upcoming documentary centered around incoming First Lady Melania Trump. In an official statement, the company revealed that the film will provide viewers with an “unprecedented behind-the-scenes look” at Melania Trump’s life, offering a rare glimpse into her personal experiences and public role. The statement also described the project as presenting a “truly unique story,” emphasizing its distinctive approach to showcasing her journey.

This documentary comes shortly after Melania Trump released her self-titled memoir late last year, in which she reflected on her life, achievements, and public image. Her husband, former President Donald Trump, is set to be sworn in for his second term as President on January 20.

The documentary marks the latest link between Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Donald Trump. In December, Amazon revealed plans to contribute $1 million to support the President-elect’s inauguration fund. Additionally, the company committed to streaming Trump’s inauguration live on its Prime Video platform, an in-kind donation valued at another $1 million.

Donald Trump and Jeff Bezos have had a tense relationship in the past. During his first term, Trump was openly critical of Amazon and frequently condemned the political coverage of The Washington Post, which is owned by Bezos. However, tensions appear to have eased recently, with Trump adopting a more conciliatory approach as Amazon and other tech companies work to strengthen ties with the incoming administration.

In December, Bezos expressed optimism about Trump’s second term, noting his positive outlook on potential regulatory rollbacks in the coming years.

In October, Jeff Bezos made the controversial decision not to allow The Washington Post to endorse a candidate in the presidential election, sparking significant backlash. The move led to tens of thousands of subscription cancellations and drew criticism from veteran journalists with long-standing ties to the newspaper. Tensions escalated further over the weekend when a cartoonist resigned from her position after an editor rejected her illustration depicting Bezos and other media executives bowing before the President-elect.

The documentary also marks director Brett Ratner’s first major project since facing multiple accusations of sexual misconduct in November 2017, during the early days of the #MeToo movement. Among those who came forward was actor Olivia Munn. Ratner denied the allegations through his attorney. Known for his work in action and thriller genres, Ratner previously directed the Rush Hour series, Red Dragon, and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Argentine filmmaker Fernando Sulichin is serving as the executive producer for the documentary, which officially began filming in December. His involvement adds an experienced creative voice to the production team.

Melania Trump, the third wife of former President Donald Trump, has remained a largely private and enigmatic figure since her husband first launched his presidential campaign in 2016. Even during her time as First Lady, she maintained a preference for privacy, focusing much of her attention on raising their son, Barron Trump, away from the public spotlight. Despite her reserved public presence, she led the “Be Best” initiative, a campaign dedicated to promoting the social, emotional, and physical well-being of children, aiming to address issues such as online safety, bullying prevention, and overall youth wellness.

Melania Trump has largely maintained a low profile during her husband’s 2024 presidential campaign. Though she made a notable appearance at Donald Trump’s campaign launch event and attended the closing night of the Republican National Convention earlier this summer, she has otherwise remained absent from most public campaign events. However, with the prospect of resuming her role as First Lady after Inauguration Day, the responsibilities tied to the position could require her to adopt a more visible public presence, engaging more actively in official duties and public appearances.
