Some families had what might have seemed like an odd query for Thomas Taylor when he was appointed superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools this summer: Would he drop another snow day single?
In a music video he made with staff last school year, Taylor dubbed himself “Supe Snowy/Dr. T” and stated that schools would be closed for one day due to wintry weather, shocking families in his old Virginia school district.
Tens of thousands of people saw the footage on the internet. Taylor dropped another song on Sunday as the D.C. area was hit by yet another round of snow. Taylor may be seen entering a meeting with other Montgomery school executives in a video that lasts around 90 seconds.
Wearing a black beanie and a Montgomery County schools athletics hoodie, Taylor croons along to Bobby McFerrin’s most well-known song, “Here’s a little song we sing when snow starts to cover everything.”
“It’s a snow day, so don’t worry.” The movie features snippets of Col. Zadok Magruder High School and Northwood High School kids laughing and dancing as the superintendent sings.
Ahead of the winter storm, Montgomery was one of over a dozen school districts in the D.C. area to declare Monday closures.
Prior to the video’s release, Taylor stated that he aimed to “capture some of the fun and excitement” that both adults and children experience on a snowy day.
In the event of inclement weather, the school system has a number of possible makeup days scheduled in its calendar.
For their weather announcements, other school administrators and superintendents across the nation have also become well-known. For instance, Steven Walts, a former superintendent of Prince William (Virginia), would play a piano piece while delivering the news in other parts of the D.C. area.
Support was generated by Facebook pages and Instagram accounts in Loudoun County after the district’s previous schools spokesperson posted snow-related posts.
