Snow, Ice, and Danger!
Kansas is reeling under a powerful winter storm, bringing blizzard conditions, icy roads, and dangerously cold temperatures across the state. Authorities are warning residents to prepare for harsh weather and stay off the roads.
What’s Happening?
- Wichita:
Heavy snow with 4-6 inches expected by evening. Winds gusting up to 45 mph are creating whiteout conditions. Tonight’s low? A teeth-chattering 10°F (-12°C). - Topeka:
Snowfall of 3-5 inches has blanketed the capital, with more expected. Roads are icy, and visibility is near zero in some areas. Temperatures will plummet to 8°F (-13°C) tonight. - Dodge City:
Blizzard conditions are in full swing with snowdrifts forming on roads and strong winds making travel nearly impossible. Temperatures will drop to 5°F (-15°C), with wind chills far below zero.
Statewide Alerts
Kansas is under Blizzard Warnings in many areas, with travel severely impacted. Stay home unless absolutely necessary—visibility is near zero, and icy roads are treacherous.
Stay Safe, Kansas!
- Avoid Driving: Blizzard conditions make travel dangerous. Stay off the roads unless it’s an emergency.
- Prepare for Power Outages: Heavy snow and strong winds could knock out power. Stock up on essentials and keep blankets ready.
- Dress for the Arctic Blast: Wear multiple layers, hats, and gloves. Wind chills can cause frostbite in minutes.
What’s Next?
The storm will begin to taper off late Tuesday, but the frigid temperatures will remain. Highs won’t climb above 20°F (-7°C) for much of the state, and lows will stay in the single digits or below zero.
This winter blast has Kansas locked in a deep freeze—stay indoors, stay warm, and stay safe!
